AMBER BRACH-WILLIAMS, Supervisor
MEG LARSEN, Councilwoman
As Councilwoman and Deputy Supervisor for the town of Shelter Island I have the pleasure, honor, and responsibility of serving all the people in this community. This year I am liaison to the Community Housing Board (who just completed an RFQ for the first round of Attainable housing which will be released for bidding in February), Comprehensive Plan (This will be my 5th year working on this project), Green Options Committee (Currently wrapping up a yearlong grant process Through the US Department of Energy Called the Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project to (ETIPP) to help island communities transform their energy systems and create resiliency through technical assistance), Planning Board, Recreation Commission, Water Advisory Committee and the Zoning Board of Appeals. I’m also liaison and helped to organize and establish the Health and Wellness Committee, which converted a group of volunteers who organized during COVID to help members of the community through those trying times into an official town committee in order to help share their knowledge and resources more readily with the community. In my role as Deputy Supervisor, I fill the shoes of the Supervisor in her absence.
AMBER WILSON, Town Clerk
As Town Clerk, I am a dedicated public servant for the Town of Shelter Island. I hold multiple key positions including Registrar of Vital Statistics, Notary Public, Freedom of Information Officer, and Records Management Officer.
In these roles I am committed to serving the community with integrity, transparency and efficiency.
With three years experience, I was trained by my predecessor, who served the town for an extraordinary 64 years. This mentorship provided me with a wealth of knowledge and strong foundation in public administration.
Included in many of my responsibilities are managing vital records, ensuring public access to information, and addressing community inquires.
My commitment extends beyond my official duties. I believe this is a non partisan position and as such, I am passionate about open communication between the towns administration and its citizens, ensuring that everyone has a voice and access to the information they need. I strive to prioritize and acknowledge community input. One of my ongoing projects to achieve this is the digitization of records. I look forward to continuing to serve you.
KEN LEWIS, Superintendent of Highways
Coming from a politically focused family, I was ready to take on the responsibilities of the Highway Superintendent/Commissioner of public works. I feel however, I’ve just gotten my feet wet in this first year, but I am ready to take on more initiatives this coming year. Some of my early initiatives included opening the gates at the Highway Office entrance on Bowditch road to encourage community members to come forward directly with questions or concerns they may have.
I have also worked to create that same open door policy with the many departments within our town government. I have a competitive sports background, and consider myself a team player. I look at our Town departments and government as one big team. To that end, I am in constant contact with the many department heads to keep an open line of communication and let them know our department is available to help anyway possible. I have worked especially closely with the building department to ensure that road openings, driveway aprons and plantings near town right of ways are permitted and reviewed before proceeding. The fabulous gem of our town park system, Goat Hill, has been long overdue for much needed updates that I made sure were done in the off season of this year. Including a new kitchen floor, new appliances as well as repaving six of the nine cart paths. My team continues to work to improve areas of the golf course, including improving tees and clearing and mulching border areas of the course.
We renovated the Goody Pile, by painting the walls, constructing new permanent shelves, and adding new signage and a new roof. In addition to creating a large enclosed outdoor space to include furniture and repurposed materials and extras from the C&D pile. This initiative has become a popular option for so many community members, young & old - and actually has created a community meet & greet opportunity. I have pursued relationships with local community organizations, like Relic from the North Fork, to provide beach cleanup stations at four of our local beaches right here on Shelter Island. I am working closely with Sylvester Manor educational farm to secure a grant for a pilot food scraps program.
I have worked for the department for 11 years. This experience has provided me with valuable knowledge and perspective to keep advancing the department and providing quality service to this community. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Shelter Island.
